Discussion Meetings

The Institute holds 20-25 Discussion Meetings a year for its members at its London headquarters, at which guest speakers introduce a discussion on an issue of current concern. IISS members can view details of Discussion Meetings via the events calendar.

The IISS also runs seminars and small conferences in the UK and abroad on specific subjects, including study groups and workshops on its current research. Participants at these international seminars are usually a combination of government officials, academics, independent analysts, specialist journalists and business people
  • 9 Oct 08 - Discussion Meeting - Mitoji Yabunaka On Thursday 9 October Mr Mitoji Yabunaka, Japanese Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, will speak on 'The State of Japanese Diplomacy Today and Prospects for Tomorrow’ from 11am-12:30pm.
  • 9 Oct 08 - Discussion Meeting - Anatol Lieven On Thursday 9 October 2008 Professor Anatol Lieven, Chair of International Relations and Terrorism Studies at King’s College London, will speak on “How Endangered is Pakistan? A Report from the North West Frontier Province” from 1-2pm.
  • 7 Oct 08 - Discussion Meeting - Elkhan Nuriyev On Tuesday 7 October 2008, Dr. Elkhan Nuriyev, Director, The Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, will speak on ‘Azerbaijan and the European Union: Energy Security and Foreign Policy Strategies’ from 10-11:30am.

  • 1 Oct 08 - Book Launch - David Lewis On Wednesday 1 October 2008 Dr. David Lewis, Senior Research Fellow, Centre for International Cooperation and Security, Department of Peace Studies, University of Bradford, will launch his new book ‘The Temptations of Tyranny in Central Asia’ from 12:30-2pm.
